Care Instructions

Polished Aluminium

Not recommended for the dishwasher

Hand wash with a soft sponge, mild soap and water

Dry immediately with a soft cloth to avoid spots

Do not leave aluminum in standing water

To prevent stains, remove all food and liquid after use

Just prior to serving, wipe or spray with vegetable oil to act as a barrier against highly acidic or salty foods

Metal polishes are not recommended for aluminum


As with all metal, never place in microwave oven

Stainless Steel, Bronze

Not recommended for dishwasher

Hand wash with a soft sponge, mild soap and water

Do not soak, even in plain water, or leave unwashed overnight

Dry immediately with a soft cloth to avoid spots

Avoid any detergent with lemon or other acidic agents

Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring pads that can scratch and dull metal surfaces

Stainless Steel, Nickelplate

Avoid extended contact with reactive foods such as undiluted lemon juice, salt, mayonnaise or egg

Hand wash silverplate promptly after use with a soft sponge, mild soap and water.

Avoid any detergent with lemon or other acidic agents.

Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or toxic dips

May be placed in the dishwasher

Dishwashers with “delicate” or “china” cycle settings are recommended

Load the dishwasher with the handles of the forks and spoons pointing down and the knife handles up

Do not run through a heat drying or rinse-hold cycle

To avoid tarnishing dry silverplate before storing in silver chest or felt bag

Polish as desired

As with all metal, never place in microwave oven

Blackened Stainless Steel

Wash immediately after use

Blackened Stainless Steel is dishwasher safe but will cause blackening to mellow over time.

Avoid any detergent with lemon or other acidic agents

Dishwashers with “delicate” or “china” cycle settings are recommended

Do not run through a heat drying or rinse-hold cycle

Load the dishwasher with the handles of the forks and spoons pointing down and the knife handles up

To maintain original patina, hand wash using soft sponge and dry with a soft cloth

Dry immediately with a soft cloth to avoid spotting and pitting

As with all metal, never place in microwave oven

Oxidized Bronze

Recommended for dry foods only

Not recommended for the dishwasher

Wipe with soft damp cloth and dry immediately with soft cloth to avoid Spots

Michael Aram ceramics are microwave-safe

Avoid sliding pieces over each other when storing to prevent scratching, breaking or chipping

Protective pads or towels are helpful in avoiding scratching

Although dishwasher-safe, hand washing is always the safest way to wash your dishes.

Hand washing is a good precaution against scratching, chipping, abrading, and cracking
